Cheetahs are the oldest of the big cats. Cheetahs are the fastest land animals and
animals on Earth and can reach speeds of up to 70 mph. They have long legs and special
pads for gripping the ground. They use their long tail to balance. Cheetahs have very good
eyesight. They hunt for prey such as gazelles and impalas but will also catch mammals
and birds. Cheetahs live in Africa. They like grasslands and deserts. They also live in
mountainous areas too.
A female cheetah will usually have a litter of 3-5 cubs and stay with them for about two
years. She teaches them how to hunt and how to hide from bigger animals. Currently,
about 12,000 cheetahs remain in the wild in Africa. They have short, tan fur with black
spots.
