Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.

Keith’s day always starts at 5 a.m., seven days a week, 365 days a year. Whether it’s freezing cold or boiling hot, Keith washes the dog kennels, cleans out every rabbit hutch, and makes sure that all the animals have enough food and fresh water. This is the daily routine for the staff at Someland Animal Shelter. No sleeping in is allowed as hundreds of animals rely on them every day of the year! Day in day out, the attendants take care of the animals, ensure they get vaccinated, keep records of their status, and process take-ins and adoptions. They also maintain the facilities and equipment and answer calls to pick up stray or injured animals. Not only is working at animal shelters physically exhausting, but it can also be emotionally draining. Every day, the staff witness abandoned animals suffer and die. Visitors may not always understand their jobs or refuse to listen to their adoption advice, and many a time, bring their old, sick, and dying companions just because they don’t want to face taking care of them. Obviously, these are a part of the staff’s responsibilities, but in the long run, these conditions can lead to burnout and fatigue. What helps the attendants get through these moments is when they can match the right human with the right animal: finally, happy dogs and cats can go home with their delighted new families! Generally speaking, when it comes to animal shelter staff, the cartoon image is of a net-carrying emotionless villain. In fact, people become animal shelter attendants because they genuinely love and enjoy working with animals. So, next time you visit an animal shelter, give a thumbs up to these amazing people!
